COMMUNICATION


Communication is not the same that language, communication is much wider and it includes linguistic code.
Communication are important gestures, moves, the look, proxemics,etc.

NON VERBAL LANGUAJE


You can find almost 75% of the information we get in our interactiosn comes from non verbal language in the routines of everyday.
The sciences that study those movements are:

1. PROXEMICS

Study the way people regulate the distance between themselves and others in ordinary daily life. Proxemics helps us to interpret our feeling towars the others.
Through proxemics we know the existence of the confort zone: intimate, good friends, acquaintances and general public.

2. KINETICS

Studies the non verbal coding systems of body activity as related to human communication. It is the science of moves.

3. SEMIOTICS

Semiotics is the science that try to understand how natural or constructed signs and symbols function as a communication medium.
Semiotics gives meaning to the gestures. It is a science that study how people generate this knowledge, how knowledge interacts.
The different signs that we could differenciate are:
  • Units of nonverbal communication
  • Gestures
  • Movements
  • Face expression
  • Any movement that transmit information

CUE: nonverbal signs used to prompt an event, behaviour or experience.
SIGNAL: this is the most common nonverbal, it is used to inform as to what will happen, a hint or warning.

Not all cues are sign but all signs are cues.

Signs are:
  • Emblems
  • Ilustrator Adaptors
  • Regulators
  • Affect displayers

Moreover, we use sounds related with words to transmit meaning. This is know as: PARALANGUAGE
The most common paralinguistic features are:
  • Qualifiers
  • Characterizers
  • Segregates
